Digital Marketing Series: Social Media Marketing

For the last post of our Digital Marketing Series, we decided to tackle today’s marketing giant: social media. Social media has exploded onto the marketing scene in the past few years. Companies ranging from small DMS_Social.jpgbusinesses to large corporate giants utilize social media to communicate with customers and network with other businesses.

Why Social Media Marketing is so Important:
Twitter has over 250 million users. Facebook has captured the attention of almost half of the adult population globally. LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Instagram are constantly growing. Utilizing social media is more important now than ever with so many people online. Social media marketing is also a cost-friendly way to reach other people, as most accounts are free. Using social media as a marketing strategy also serves as a way to interact with other people, creating the perfect canvas for potential business opportunities.

What to Remember When Focusing on Social Media:

    • Start a Conversation:
Social media was created as a way of communication, It is crucial to not lose sight of that. Do not be afraid to interact with your followers. It will encourage them to do the same for you, so that you can better network and have conversations with your followers.
    • Follow Relevant Accounts:
Following relevant accounts across your social media channels is important because it creates opportunities for communication. If you can relate to their posts, you have more of an ability to start a relevant conversation. Also, following relevant accounts has the potential to network with other accounts that are also relevant to you.
    • Be Active:
Social media channels need to be active in order to be effective. If you are posting once or twice per week on an inconsistent basis, followers will dwindle because they will lack interest in the small amount of content you are posting. It is recommended that an active Twitter account puts out at least 3 tweets per day, not including interactions.
