Written by Tyler Stouder, Director, Digital Marketing

Imagination time!

Your company is exploring a web redesign. You gather all your key decision makers into one room and then hop on a conference call with the "buddy" of the CFO, who "does web design stuff". The call goes great and everyone agrees what the site should look like, what the functionally should be and what type of content should be included. All is good, right?

People strategizing

As we mentioned last week, it is easy hypothesize about who our target audience is, how they want to interact with us, and what we think they need.  The sames is true when it comes to anything digital marketing (web design, web development, SEO,and content creation); it all starts with the target audience.

Imagination time...again!

Your company is exploring a web redesign AND have done the necessary discovery work to determine who the target audience is, the features they are looking to use and the type on content they are looking to consume.  In short, you are ready to begin design, right?

Digital Marketing is all about knowing WHO to target and WHAT type of content to create.  However it's very important to know HOW to strategize and prepare.  Here are 3 quick reminders to help plan and execute around your discovery findings.

Reminder #1 – Focus on Discovery Work

Take a look at the big picture. What are you trying to achieve? Who are you targeting? What is a win for your organization? Are you focused on brand development, the bottom line, or simply providing a better experience for your customers? Outline your purpose and define the vision. Having these answers on hand will make step 2 much easier.

Reminder #2 - Strategize around Goals

Now that you have gathered all your resources, goals, dreams, and discovery work, lets get to work developing a strategy to win.

Do you want focus on developing a social media strategy to help you achieve your goals or is a web design strategy what you need? You have all the information you need to determine your strategy at this point. Don't be afraid to fail, ask for help, or simply try.

Digital marketing can be agile and so should your strategy development.

Reminder #3 - Prepare to Create Content

Once you have developed your strategy it’s time to begin creating content to fulfill your strategy. If you’re writing blogs, do you have writers? If you are focusing on an overall digital marketing strategy, do you have the necessary tools to implement?

Next week, we will take a look at some of the best practices for content creation for blogs, social media, email, web copy, and PPC campaigns
