#DigitalMarketing101:  Execute Your Content

Written by Travis Pryor, Digital Account Strategist

By now you should…

Know your target audience and have a developed digital marketing strategy.

Now it’s time to get to work on creating the content (tactics).

Before we get going too far in to this, let’s define our terms so we are all on the same page.

Strategy-The overall aim, direction, or goal.

Tactics-The tools utilized to achieve the strategy.

During the optimize phase we created a strategy based on our Discovery Work and now we get down into the weeds of tactics.

Here are four simple things to do to optimize your digital marketing strategy.

  1. Beat the Dead Horse

Refer back to your target audience and discovery work. What does your target audience want, are the busy and like things quick, are you focusing on B2B or B2C? Remembering the answers to these questions will help you optimize and create content specifically designed for your target user.

Remember if your target audience is busy and doesn’t have time to read an eBook, don’t send them an eBook offer. It’s simple yet profound.

  1. Just Start

It’s easy to sit around and hypothesize, but it’s harder to start. Don’t let the impending work load cripple you. You’re probably not going to write or produce a piece of content that is going to go viral on your first try. In fact, writing for things to go viral is not the goal. The goal of your content should be to provide value to your target audience and if it happens to go viral, great!Start Optimizing Content

  1. Edit

I don’t know about you, but editing my writing is the worst part. It can be time consuming and tiring. After all, you have spent the last “x” amount of hours on writing it, the last thing you probally want to do is keep thinking about it, editing it, changing it, and tweaking it.

The reality is, that’s the best thing you do. Taking the time, regardless of all of the content to produce on your to-do list, is the best thing you can do.

Mark Twain famously said, “I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.”

      4. Share it

We often go through the hassle to do the discovery work, to create the content, to edit the content and then we struggle to share it. How is your piece of content going to get spread to the masses? How is it going to reach your target audience? There is a lifespan to your content, don’t let it die out too early. Utilize the discovery work and share it where your target audience is and will find it.

Don’t let your content go unnoticed. Make sure you execute with your content for your target audience. To learn more about best practices and how we could you with your content development and distribution feel free to reach out.
