It's 1999 2016. Tarzan is making millions in theaters. Blink-182 has a top 5 album. There's a Clinton in the headlines. And, to top it off, Pokémon is all the rage. Mind blown.
Chances are that, unless you spent the last week living in a ditch, you're probably well aware that the reboot to Nintendo’s Pokémon has revived the game and made it bigger than ever. Chances also are that you fell into that ditch while trying to catch Ratata similar to how Redditor Amalthea slipped and fractured a bone in their foot thirty minutes into downloading the game. Mind blown again.
Pokémon Go is so popular that it’s on the verge of overtaking Twitter in terms of daily active users on Android. It is being installed on twice as many mobile devices as Tinder and has record-high user engagement, beating out Instagram and Snapchat for average time spent in-app per day. Mind blown so bad my brain hurts.
Basically, Pokémon Go uses your phone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and has Pokémon "appear" around you (on your phone screen), so you can go and catch them. As you move around, different types of Pokémon will appear depending on where you are and what time it is.
Pokemon GO is just insane right now. This is in Central Park. It's basically been HQ for Pokemon GO. pic.twitter.com/3v2VfEHzNA

Currently, the app doesn't offer any sponsorship or partnership programs, however there are still ways for businesses and marketers to get involved and grow their digital marketing efforts:
- Maximize the PokéStop or Pokémon Gym near your business
- Right now, users can only battle one another at PokéGyms; if your business serves as a PokéStop or Pokémon Gym, take advantage of it! Host meetups, offer discounts, provide free swag for users or even plan "Lures" which attract Pokémon to the specific location. However, these PokéStop or Pokémon Gym locations are pre-determined by the developer, Niantic Labs. But who's to say that won't change in the future?
So this restaurant next to my work already dropped a lure on their business today.... It's gunna be a good day. #PokemonGo

- Freebies, Freebies, Freebies
- Who doesn't like the word “free”? Give away free t-shirts with your company logo on it, offer charging stations to offset the battery drain that Pokémon GO creates, or provide water stations for parched players literally "travel[ing] across the land, searching far and wide..."

- Showcase Your Pokémon
- Tweet, tag and pin the types of Pokémon that have been found at your business on your social media channels. By creating a buzz and showcasing the different types of Pokémon that hang out around your business, you encourage trainers to stop by or engage in conversation with your brand
This game has taken off and will only continue to grow, so why not get involved? Embrace the game and make the Pokémon GO experience fun and memorable for both your company and your potential customers.
