The Scary Truth about Social Media Marketing

Written by Travis Pryor, Digital Marketing Specialist

Social media marketing can seem...haunting. First of all there are a lot of options: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIN, Google+, YouTube, Periscope, Vine, etc… How do you know which one to choose if you choose any at all? This is just the first of many decisions you will make about social media.

One thing is for sure though, social media is here to stay, it’s part of life whether we like it or not.The-Scary-Truth-about-Social-Media.jpg Since this is true we might as well capitalize on it. Traditional marketing and relationship building tools are expensive, intrusive, and can sometimes seem a little obnoxious (like buying a car). But the reality of social media is that it is quick, short, to the point, and should be something that benefits your clients or potential clients.

A story that I tell people to help them understand social media strategy and inbound marketing is personal to me. I love to smoke meat. So naturally, I wanted to build a smoker. I went online to learn about which type of welder I needed and came across a well-known welding manufacturer who had written a blog post about the different types of welders and common uses for that type of welder. No where in the article did they sell me one of their welders, but what they did do was answer my questions, provide me help, and benefited my smoker build. For me this automatically built brand awareness and loyalty.

The same is true for you on social media; you should be providing a benefit to the reader, not selling them on your product. Social media is a great place to add benefit to your reader’s life and their organization.

On our Halloween version of Facebook Live, we want to share the scary truth about social media and help you understand a few key benefits as well as some strategies to help you maximize your social media accounts.

Join us on Halloween at 2pm for 15 minutes of the scary truth.
